Hello Sweet Friends,

The Fall 2018 One Room Challenge – Week 2 Update
I’m so happy to report that I’m moving right along with the guest bedroom makeover and so far I’m pretty much on schedule with my game plan. Yay!!! The only thing I haven’t gotten to yet this week is my D.I.Y. art project, but I’m hoping to at least get started on that this weekend.
To refresh your memory, here’s a quick glance at my game plan again:
Week 1: Introduction; Share Inspiration Board, Overall Plan and Weekly Game Plan. Start Purchasing Needed Items. ✔
Week 2: Share Furniture Layout and Other Design Ideas; Clean and Clear Everything Out of Room; Work on D.I.Y. Art; Continue Purchasing Needed Items. ✔
Week 3: Paint Room; Install Feature Wood Wall; Install New Lighting Fixtures; Finish D.I.Y. Art.
Week 4: Make Window Treatment; Place All Furniture in Room; Hang Wall Decor.
Week 5: Dress The Bed; Accessorize Room; Professional Photo Shoot.
Week 6: THE BIG REVEAL!!!
Guest Bedroom Floor Plan and Furniture Layout
This guest bedroom is approximately 11’W x 12’6″L and the closet is 6’6″W x 7’6″. Since I want my guests (and my son when he comes home) to be comfortable and have a pleasant night’s sleep, I am opting to put a queen sized bed in here. I’m also planning to have a bench in the recessed dormer area for additional seating or for a place to set overnight bags.
For this makeover, I’ll be keeping the existing carpet in here since it runs throughout the entire upstairs. Unfortunately, it’s just not in the budget this go round to replace all that carpet, so it has to stay. However, my son did live in this room for a number of years and there are some areas that are showing its age (ahem…stains), so I needed to come up with Plan B. To
help cover up the stains further enhance the Ralph Lauren Southwest Lodge Inspired look I’m going for, I’m planning on placing an area rug in here. I’m even strongly considering layering two rugs in here (as shown on floor plan above) because I love that layered rug look, but I’m not 100% sure just yet. If I go that route, I’m thinking one area rug will be a plaid patterned rug, and the other will be a leopard print rug. In my mind and on paper this will look great, but we shall see! I would like to think Ralph himself would approve of this idea, since he’s all about creating a warm and welcoming look with layers and various prints and patterns.
Here are Some Before Photos of The Room
Don’t you just love kids and all their stuff? Even after they move out and are on their own they leave remnants behind for mom to take care of. Ugh! I’m happy to say all of this is now cleaned up and organized, and placed neatly in the closet. As you can see on the floor plan above, the closet is a pretty nice size (thankfully!), so I was able to move the desk, bookcase, and all my son’s stuff in there for safe keeping just in case he decides he needs these things.
And Here is The Room Fairly Cleaned Up and Empty and Almost Ready for Paint and The Wood Wall.
My Ralph Lauren Southwest Lodge Inspired Guest Bedroom Purchasing Is In Full Force!
I’m rocking and rolling with making the purchases for my Ralph Lauren Southwest Lodge Inspired Guest Bedroom. Woohoo! So far, I’ve purchased:
- Queen Upholstered Tufted Bed
- Queen Mattress and Box Spring Set
- Leopard Area Rug
- All Bedding To Include: Deer Sheet Set, Pendleton Blanket, Quilt, and Decorative Pillows. (Still need to buy pillow inserts though)
- Bedside Lighting (These Gorgeous Hammered Silver Pendants).
If you saw my post last week (Week 1), you may notice these are different pendants than what I shared on my inspiration board. I was just about to order the original pendants when I saw these beauties, and fell in love with them and just had to have them! I think they’ll look even better than the original ones. Fingers crossed! Luckily, I’ve had this “horse artwork” forever, so that’s one piece I don’t have to find!
Oh, I guess I should point out that the decorative pillow (red, black, cream, and blue gray) was my jumping off point for the color scheme. I found this beauty and a few more that I’ll be using in here on a recent shopping trip at the Dallas World Trade Center. They were definitely a splurge, but totally worth it because I love them that much!
