Hello Sweet Friends!
I think I’ve temporarily lost my mind. Not really, but I just added another project to my already overloaded plate. Lord help me!
The Fall 2018 One Room Challenge Has Started – Let The Fun Begin!
For years, I have been following the One Room Challenge (ORC). Seven years to be exact. And I’ve always been enamored with all of the beautiful spaces that everyone creates in just 6 short weeks. I’ve often thought of joining in on the challenge, but just haven’t been able to due to client load and other commitments. However, the time has come for me to join! Hence the comment about my temporary insanity!
That’s right friends, I’ve decided to join in on the fun as a guest participant. There’s just something about having a deadline (ahem…and peer pressure) that lights a fire under me to get my own home improvement and decor projects complete. Anyone else?
I think I’m going to need all the good vibes and caffeine that I can get in order to get this done. And I’m hoping you’ll be right there with me, cheering me on to the finish line!
Just in Case You’re Wondering What The One Room Challenge Is…
The One Room Challenge (ORC) was started by home decor blogger, Linda Weinstein of Calling It Home back in 2011. Looking for motivation and encouragement to finally finish a room in her home, she enlisted six of her blogger BFF’S to join in a challenge – Finish a Room in 6 weeks.
Today, the ORC has grown into a bi-annual event, occurring in April and October. This much anticipated event has interior designers, bloggers, and home decor enthusiasts alike conjuring up ideas for months to help prepare them for this demanding, yet fun & exciting undertaking. The ORC is filled with so much inspiration, designer tips & tricks and tutorials, not to mention the gorgeous room reveals, that it truly is a home décor lover’s dream!
A special thank you to Better Homes & Gardens for being the media partner for this event.
Back to My Ralph Lauren Southwest Lodge Inspired Guest Bedroom
Since this is my first time participating in The ORC, I decided to start off with a smaller project. I’ll be transforming one of our guest bedrooms (aka, our son’s old bedroom). I’ve had ideas floating around in my head forever, so I’m really looking forward to bringing those ideas to life and finally having this room complete.
My overall goals for this bedroom transformation are: (1) stay within or under my allotted $5,000 budget; and (2) create a warm & welcoming space for my son to enjoy when he comes home to visit, as well as, one that my guests will enjoy during their stay.
Everybody Needs a Little Inspiration to Get Them Started, Right? Wanna See Mine?
The Overall Plan:
- Add Feature Wood Wall
- Repaint Other Walls
- Purchase New Upholstered Bed (Queen)
- Purchase New Mattress & Box Springs (Queen)
- Purchase New Bedding – to include sheet set, comforter/duvet, blanket, and pillows
- Make New Window Treatment
- Purchase New Bedside Lighting
- Purchase Miscellaneous Accessories to Complete Desired Look
- Purchase New Light Fixture or Ceiling Fan
- Purchase/Make New Wall Decor – to possibly include some D.I.Y. projects
- Possibly add an area rug
