Who Knew Oval Tablecloths and Pretty & Inexpensive Napkins Were So Hard To Find?
My breakfast room table is a large oval (54W x 72L) and finding a tablecloth to fit it properly is pretty much impossible. The oval tablecloths I have found are either way too long in length and too short on width or not large enough all the way around; both of which makes for an odd fit & look. The amount of time it would take to make one (for every occasion and/or season) that fits my table properly is out of the question, mostly because I lack the patience but also because I can barely sew a straight line. Custom made is also out of the question due to cost.
Something else I also struggle with is spending an exorbitant amount of money on pretty cloth napkins. For one, they’re mostly for show because we’re casual around here for family meals and use paper napkins (anyone else?), but also because on the occasion that they do get used and then washed they’re never the same again. They always end up misshaped after washing, and to me, that’s a huge waste of money.
As an interior designer, I truly love the idea of custom made because I can choose the fabric that works best with my design style/color scheme and have them made to fit. I also understand the costs of having them custom made: designer fabric + time to fabricate = $$$, but the frugal side of me says no go since this is for our breakfast room.
French Country Cottage Easter Table Place Setting – Easy No-Sew Table Linens
Meanwhile, I was still determined to make my French Country Cottage Easter tablescape vision come to life and to stay on budget, so I decided on the next best thing…No-Sew table linens!
When I saw this cute white daisy lace fabric at my local Hobby Lobby I knew it would be perfect as a square table throw for my Easter tablescape. I then set out to search for a faded teal/turquoise damask fabric for the napkins, and then remembered that I had the perfect fabric left over from a previous project. It was exactly what I had in mind!
No-Sew Table Linen Supply List
Making a no-sew napkin and table throw is relatively quick and easy. I simply placed the hem adhesive to the wrong side of the fabric and then turned hem over approximately 1/4″, and lastly, fused the two fabric sides together by ironing. Once that was done, I ironed the napkin and folded to my liking. I did the same thing for the table throw.
Voila! Easy no-sew table linens!
