Easy DIY Topiaries for a Fresh and Elegant Seasonal Touch

Topiaries are timeless decor accents that add a touch of sophistication while reflecting the natural beauty of the season. Their versatility makes them a perfect accent for any season, but I especially love the refreshing feel they bring to spring decorating.

DIY topiaries are a budget-friendly way to elevate your home decor without breaking the bank. While pre-made topiaries can often be pricey, making your own gives you the freedom to personalize your design, control the cost of materials, and create something unique.

Whether you use faux greenery, moss, or fresh florals, DIY spring topiaries are a fun way to bring the beauty of the season indoors. With just a few basic supplies, you can craft a stunning centerpiece or accent that’s sure to brighten your home all spring long.

Step-by-Step Guide to Making Simple Spring Topiaries

  1. Prepare Your Base: (a) Cut floral foam to fit your decorative pot or planter. Place in planter. If needed, secure floral foam to bottom of container with floral or hot glue. (b) Place branch or stick into floral foam, making sure that it is secure and level. (c) Cut branch or stick to desired height.
  2. Add Topiary Form: Place topiary form onto stick. If needed, secure it with a bit of floral foam to ensure stability.
  3. Add Greenery: Start by gluing or pinning your greenery to the base. For a natural look, layering different types of greenery (such as moss, faux boxwood, etc.) will create a more textured and realistic effect.
  4. Shape Your Topiary: As you work your way up the cone, continue adding greenery in a circular, upward motion. Don’t forget to press the greenery firmly into place to prevent any gaps.
  5. Finishing Touches: Once you’ve covered the entire form, add decorative touches like small flowers, ribbons, or even tiny decorative accents like butterflies or birds to personalize your topiary.

Tips for Displaying Your DIY Topiaries Around the Home

Once your topiaries are complete, you’ll want to show them off! Below are some of my favorite places to display my DIY topiaries.

  • Dining Table Centerpiece: Use them as the main attraction of your table centerpiece to give your spring table a fresh and inviting feel.
  • Mantel Decor: Pair topiaries with other spring-themed items like candles or vases on your mantel for a cohesive look. FYI…Come back next week to see this year’s Spring Mantel Design!
  • In The Kitchen: I love displaying my DIY topiaries on our island, but they would look equally beautiful as part of a countertop vignette.
  • Entryway Chest: Place them on an entryway chest to greet visitors as they arrive.
  • Other Ideas: Display them on a bedroom dresser or night stand or perhaps on the bathroom countertop, and so much more.

Creative Ideas to Customize Your DIY Spring Topiaries

One of the best things about DIY topiaries is how customizable they can be. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

  • Floral Touches: Add faux or fresh spring flowers like tulips, daisies, or lavender to give your topiary a burst of color.
  • Pastel Ribbons: Choose soft pastel ribbons to wrap around the base of the topiary for a chic and elegant touch.
  • Themed Decor: Customize your topiary for different occasions, think Easter eggs, tiny birdhouses, or butterflies for an extra seasonal flair.
