If you’re coming over from Crystal at Sweet Valley Acres, welcome! I’m so happy you’re stopping by! Don’t you just love her beautiful Christmas decor?

Do You Know How Christmas in July Originated?

I’m sure you’ve heard the term Christmas in July, and you may have even thought that it’s a marketing gimmick made up by retailers; however that’s not the case.

Legend has it that Christmas in July first began back in 1933 at a summer camp, Keystone Camp, in Brevard, NC. They dedicated two full days (July 24th & 25th) to celebrate – complete with fake snow, caroling, a decked out Christmas tree, a gift exchange, and of course, a visit from Santa Claus.

A few more interesting tidbits about Christmas in July…

  1. In 1944, the U.S. Postal Service and American greeting card companies launched the very first Christmas in July campaign to encourage early mailing of Christmas cards to overseas soldiers.
  2. In the Southern Hemisphere, where seasons are opposite of the Northern Hemisphere, Christmas is celebrated in July in order to have that Christmas winter feel we experience here during our winter months. Lucky for them, they still celebrate Christmas on December 25th too!
  3. If you’re eager to binge-watch some holiday movies, The Hallmark Channel has you covered! They have Christmas movies throughout the month of July.
  4. The home shopping network channel, QVC, celebrates Christmas in July with sales all month long.
  5. You may have even noticed that many other retailers are now offering promotions and sales during the month of July as well.

Onto Some Christmas Decor, Shall We? Welcome to Our Winter Woodland Themed Christmas.

Decorating for the Christmas Holiday Season is one of my favorite things to do. In fact, I enjoy it so much that I typically start planning for the next holiday season at the beginning of the year, tweaking it here and there along the way.

There’s just something about a fully decorated home with all of the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree(s), wreaths, holiday decor, a crackling fire (if it’s cold enough in Texas, lol!), and all of the Christmassy scents that makes everything a home so warm and cozy.

Benefits of Embracing Christmas in July

  1. Reminiscing about Christmas and the cooler winter temperatures helps take the focus off of the long hot days of summer giving us that placebo effect.
  2. It gets us thinking of the upcoming holiday season and sparks early ideas and planning. That’s right folks, it’s never too early to start planning for the holiday season.
  3. Since many retailers now celebrate Christmas in July you can take advantage of their sales. Many of which are for the entire month of July!
  4. Shopping early for decor, presents, and other miscellaneous holiday items helps lighten the load a the pocket book a little, by stretching out expenditures over months instead of one to two months.
  5. Now is the perfect time to start all of those holiday DIY holiday projects so they’ll be ready when it’s time to decorate for the season.
